Virat Kohli continued his golden run as he smashed his third double century in 2016 and shared a record 241-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Jayant Yadav. Jayant, playing in his third Test match, became the first Indian No.9 batsman to score a century. Together, they helped India reach a mammoth 631.
Buoyed by the performance of Kohli and Jayant, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja struck at regular intervals as England crumbled to 182/6. Only Joe Root (77) and Jonny Bairstow (50) stood tall.
