India Women vs Zimbabwe Women Commentary

4:14 PM IST PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Harmanpreet Kaur wins the award for her fantastic knock of 126 runs off 121 balls. She says she enjoyed batting without pressure and wants to continue approaching the game in the same way. She explains that ODIs demand a different approach, with batters needing to respect good deliveries and capitalise on loose ones, which was the message she and Pratika Rawal shared during their partnership. Speaking about her mental preparation, Kaur says she prefers to stay grounded in reality and accept things as they come, adding that cricket brings her happiness, and batting is something she has enjoyed throughout her career. Kaur also notes that her focus at the crease remains on taking responsibility for the team and adapting to the match situation, rather than thinking about the freedom of not having the captaincy anymore. She wants to keep enjoying her game regardless of the circumstances. On her fitness, Kaur reveals that she was struggling with a fever the previous night and needed some rest. However, she hopes the painkillers will help ease the discomfort and allow her to recover in time for the next game.
4:13 PM IST Two down, one to go - That brings us to the end of this game, with India sealing the series with a game to spare and now eyeing a clean sweep, while Zimbabwe will look to bow out with some pride. The third and final ODI will be played on Wednesday, 28th October at 8.30 am GMT (2 pm GMT), and you can join us early for all the build-up to the game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
4:10 PM IST The victorious skipper of India Women - Smriti Mandhana says the biggest positive was India recovering from 19/2 to post a 300-plus total, crediting Harmanpreet Kaur, Pratika Rawal and Deepti Sharma for their contributions. She praises Deepti's batting, which has been impressive since the ODI World Cup, and highlights Vaishnavi Sharma's performance, along with contributions from the others. On rotating her bowlers, Mandhana explains that 4-5 overs is a long spell in ODI cricket and she does not want batters to get too comfortable against the same bowler, making regular changes an important part of her approach. Smriti praises Zimbabwe's fielding, saying they saved around 20-30 runs in the field. She adds that such efforts are a good sign for women's cricket in general.
4:09 PM IST India turn on the style to seal the series - India Women have delivered another dominant performance to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series and Smriti Mandhana's ODI era begins on a positive note. Twin centuries from Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma laid the foundation before the bowlers completed the job, with Vaishnavi Sharma making an impact on her return with an excellent four-wicket haul. Zimbabwe showed some improvement with the bat, but chasing such a massive target proved too steep a challenge as the hosts remained firmly in control.
4:08 PM IST The captain of Zimbabwe Women - Josephine Nkomo says that her back is a bit sore, and tonight a lot of work will go on with the physio. Adds that they were better with their lines and lengths with the new ball and at the death as well, which is a positive. Nkomo mentions that once Modester Mupachikwa and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano got into their 40s, they became a bit tentative and could have kicked on, as they were batting well. Says that it was a bit tough early on with the heat, but it is not much different from Bulawayo. Tells that they have nothing to lose now and will fight till the last ball in the final game.
3:59 PM IST A collective bowling effort - India Women will be pleased with their bowling effort, even if the first breakthrough took until the 9th over, when Sree Charani struck. Sayali Satghare then broke the big partnership, and from there, the bowlers never let Zimbabwe settle. Vaishnavi Sharma was outstanding through the middle overs, returning figures of 4/39, while Deepti Sharma chipped in with three wickets to bring India closer to victory. Jintimani Kalita then wrapped things up with her maiden ODI wicket, putting the finishing touches on a commanding performance.
