'Never heard a batter having back surgery. This is all because of…': Jadeja's outrageous take on Iyer's injury
The news about Iyer's injury has however led to an outrageous reaction from Jadeja, who had come up with an unusual reason behind its occurrence.
After Jasprit Bumrah, India have incurred another big injury blow, of that of Shreyas Iyer. So far it has been reported that Iyer's recurring back issue might rule him out of the entire IPL 2023 season, but the India batter is more concerned about his participation in the ODI World Cup slated to happen in India in October this year. The news about Iyer's injury has however led to an outrageous reaction from former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja, who had come up with an unusual reason behind its occurrence.

It has been an issue that has been troubling Iyer for the last couple of months. He was ruled out of the limited-overs contest against New Zealand earlier this year owing to the same reason before missing the Nagpur opener of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. He later returned to the Indian team, but the injury resurfaced again during his knock in the fourth Test against Australia. "Poor guy! It just was such an unfortunate incident. He had to wait all day to bat and then when the day got over, the issue he had with his back recurred," India captain Rohit Sharma had said.
According to report on Cricbuzz, Iyer is yet to take a call on having a surgery despite it being recommended by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Kolkata Knight Riders are also closely following the progress to see if he can be available in the later half of the season, while Iyer has his eyes set of the World Cup. The report adds that the surgery might not guarantee him a return to the World Cup team.
Speaking to Cricbuzz on Iyer's injury, Jadeja was shocked that batters nowadays have developed back issues and feels that excess of gym training might have resulted in this.
“For three months? This is also something new I am hearing. Injuries happen all the time but back surgery for a batter is something I have never heard before. Even batsmen are having back surgeries? Yeh toh khel se irth girth ko cheezein juri huyi hai uspe thoda dhyan dena parega. Yeh jo loha utha raha hai, faeda toh ho raha hai uska (This is all because of the things happening in and around the game. Weightlifting has its advantages), but we get to see the other side as well. Hope he gets well,” he said.
