Born on February 2, 2002, in Nangarhar, Afghanistan, Ismat Alam is a dynamic right-handed all-rounder who bowls right-arm fast-medium. Coming from a notable cricketing family (as the nephew of international fast bowler Aftab Alam), Ismat has rapidly ascended through Afghanistan's domestic structure to make an impression on the international stage.
Alam made his first-class debut in November 2022, steadily honing his red-ball credentials in regional multi-day competitions. His domestic breakthrough arrived during the 2024-25 Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament, where he played a starring role for the Pamir Legends. Finishing as the tournament's leading run-scorer, he amassed 723 runs from six matches at an astonishing average of 103.23, highlighted by a magnificent, career-best knock of 263 not out.
His stellar domestic form earned him a Test cap for Afghanistan, making his debut against Zimbabwe on January 2, 2025, at Bulawayo. Making a historic entrance into Test cricket batting from the lower order (No. 8 or below), he struck a brilliant century (101). In white-ball formats, Alam has represented regional powerhouses like the Speen Ghar Region (Speenghar Tigers) in the Shpageeza Cricket League, showcasing his multi-dimensional utility with aggressive lower-middle-order hitting and sharp fast-medium spells.
Expanding his international exposure, he also featured for Afghanistan in white-ball setups, including the Asian Games Men’s T20I tournament in September 2026 and was also picked in the Afghan squad for the one-off Test against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi, in October 2026.
