Sri Ganganagar-born opener Sumit Godara has built his reputation in Rajasthan cricket through defensive discipline, long-format application, and an appetite for grinding down new-ball attacks. Born in February 2004, Godara developed his core fundamentals across northern Rajasthan grounds before refining his craft through rigorous academy setups in Jaipur.
After racking up heavy runs in regional age-group competitions, Godara stepped into the state T20 spotlight during the 2023 Rajasthan Premier League while representing the Jaipur Indians. Showing he could adapt his classical foundation to white-ball demands, he delivered key opening contributions, anchored by a composed 48 off 41 balls against the Shekhawati Soldiers Sikar to steer his side to victory.
His steady progression across state trial matches and selection fixtures earned him his senior List A debut for Rajasthan in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Opening the innings in 50-over cricket, Godara demonstrated strong tactical awareness, rotating the strike cleanly and laying sturdy platforms for Rajasthan’s middle order to accelerate.
The 2025-26 domestic season marked a defining step in Godara's career as he broke into Rajasthan's top order across formats. In late December 2025, he played a crucial anchor knock of 37 off 56 balls against Tripura in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to set a solid platform at the top. Moving into the red-ball arena, he earned his stripes in the Ranji Trophy, showing resilience against testing pace attacks from Chhattisgarh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Godara carried that momentum through the summer of 2026, dominating premier invitation tournaments and club fixtures across Jaipur with a string of fifties and centuries. His hard work culminated in early October 2026 when he was retained in Rajasthan’s senior squad for the opening rounds of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season, entering the campaign as one of the state's prime long-term options at the top of the order.
