The Congress on Wednesday accused the BJP government in Uttarakhand of not coming up with any work of development and committing atrocities on party workers by misusing state machineries and framing opposition leaders in false cases.
Congress leaders present at a day-long protest at Gandhi Park in Dehradun against alleged harassment of Congress workers equivocally condemned the Trivendra Singh government and announced that party will fight every move of the BJP and its government to terrorise opposition workers.
Speaking on the occasion, PCC president Pritam Singh charged that the BJP and its government with behaving like autocratic authority in the state. He alleged that the BJP government has unleashed a reign of terror against Congress workers by misusing the state machinery.
Besides party workers, nine out of 11 Congress MLAs, former MLAs, MPs attended the protest.
“While implicating Congress workers in legal matters has become order of the day, the BJP and its government are making persistent attempts to dislodge Congress dominated elected bodies by horse trading or coercion,” Singh said.
“We had submitted a memorandum to the CM requesting him to rein in the harassment of opposition leaders but he failed to take any action. This has forced the Congress party to come on the roads.
“BJP leaders and state government know well that have been exposed and lost people’s confidence within seven months of their rule but they are acting on power of arrogance which will not last too long,” he said.
Leader of the opposition in the state assembly Indira Hridayesh alleged that the BJP governments across the country do not believe in democratic principal and constitutional values.
“They have no respect for democratically elected systems and are going all out to capture congress held elected bodies at district, block and villages. Congress workers will not be demoralized by this but will battle it out more vigorously,” she said.
Kedarnath MLA Manoj Rawat said: “The BJP government does not even show basic courtesy of inviting opposition MLAs if any event is being held in their constituencies despite mandatory protocol for the same.”
