Karan Shivpuri, 25, is a stunt biker and once participated in MTV’s ‘Stuntmania’ show. He, however, could not pursue his passion professionally and ended up becoming a chain snatcher in Delhi.

Dehradun police arrested the man in connection with a chain snatching incident in the state capital, an official said on Wednesday.

According to police, Shivpuri is the most wanted criminal of Delhi’s Dwarka police station area. Eight cases are lodged against him different police stations of Dehradun and 27 in Delhi.

“We formed a special operation group after the repeated chain snatching incidents in the city. Several CCTV footages were reviewed and suspected were interrogated,” Nivedita Kukreti, senior superintendent of police (SSP), said.

“On Tuesday noon, a biker suddenly speed up after spotting cops. Within minutes, he was caught and later interrogated. He revealed his story and that’s how it was found that the man is a repeated offender,” Kukreti said while producing the accused before media persons.

CCTV footage revealed his involvement in a chain snatching incident in the city’s posh area.

A fashion freak, Shivpuri had tattooed ‘DON’ on his shoulder. Now settled in Dehradun, his modus operandi was different.

Shivpuri would hire a bike from Rishikesh and cover its number plate with a sticker. Karan would only target elderly women in posh localities of Doon during mornings and evenings.

The accused revealed that he shifted to Uttarakhand along with his mother, wife and kids in a bid to get out of the sight of Delhi police who was hunting for him in connection with various cases.

Shivpuri’s entry into the criminal world was dramatic after he lost his father in 2006. Shivpuri said he hails from Uttarakhand but was born and brought up in Delhi as his father was settled there.

The accused was book for the first time in 2006 for a cylinder theft in Delhi’s Palam area.

“I was forced into crime world as I had no other option for living after death of my father. Initially I was caught, sent to the juvenile centre and released. But that did not stop me,” he told police.

Shivpuri said he fell in love with a Delhi girl, married her after he turned 18.

In 2010, he came in touch with Ankit Thakur, who offered to double up as team. Ankur snatched gold chains from elderly women while Karan drove drive.

Doon police said they have informed their Delhi counterpart about Shivpuri’s arrest.
