Police said the woman, an MBA graduate, was the aerobics trainer for the businessman’s wife and she had intentionally left the rear gate of the house open to facilitate entry of her associates, Anto Alphonse, deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka), said.

According to the DCP, the woman trainer (police have withheld her name) was aware that was cash and other valuables in the house and she tipped off her associates the day the businessman and his two sons left for Punjab on a business trip.

The robbery took place in the early hours of March 31 while the businessman’s wife and nephew were asleep. Around 2am, the nephew heard some noise and woke up to find four men in his room. “On realising that they were discovered, the robbers tied up the woman and her nephew using cloth, handkerchiefs and plastic tapes. The robbers also thrashed the two,” the DCP said.

Over the next few minutes, the robbers forcibly removed the woman’s gold rings and four gold bangles before targeting the safe locker in the house, he said.

When the businessman returned home, he realised that the robbers had also made away with 1.5 crore cash kept in the safe. A case was registered at Bindapur police station and a probe was started.

The DCP said the breakthrough came while scanning the CCTV footage. Over the last two weeks, police arrested three men – Baldev Singh, 47, Sonu, 22, and Biru, 39, and the woman who had tipped them off.

Police said two other accused are yet to be arrested. Police have recovered 47.5 lakh cash, some of the stolen jewellery and the sedan used in the robbery.
