Delhi has officially solved its first case of the mysterious hair-choppings reported by women in the national capital. It turned out to be a “prank” by young relatives of the 14-year-old girl.

The hair chopping was reported from the Sanjay Gandhi Jhuggi in south Delhi’s Dakshinpuri on Friday afternoon. A 14-year-old girl had claimed that she had found chopped hair on her clothes, but had not seen anyone do it.
“We sent a police team to verify the facts. The investigators, in their interaction with the girl’s relatives and neighbours, learnt that it was the girl’s 10-year-old brother and 12-year-old nephew who did it. They were playing a prank on her,” said Romil Baaniya, DCP (south-east).
The officer claimed that the girl’s parents had given this in writing after which the investigation was closed.
Meanwhile, police remain clueless in the other cases reported in the city. Though some officers have come on record to say that the women are doing it themselves or it is the handiwork of their relatives, they have been unable to offer anything more than circumstantial evidence.
