Four men arrested for armed robbery in Delhi University’s North Campus

Based on a tip-off, the police laid a trap on Friday near Khalsa College on Inner Ring Road. However, the accused opened fire at the police team and in retaliation, the personnel fired back, the officer said.

Four persons charged with armed robbery have been arrested after a brief exchange of fire in Delhi University’s North Campus area, police said Saturday.

Ravi (36), Sarfaraz Khan (26) and Vikram (32) were arrested on Friday, while another accused Vikrant Nehra was arrested on Saturday, they added.

In December last year, Ravi along with Vivek, Sarfaraz, Vikrant and Parvinder planned an armed robbery at Ranjit Nagar, officials said.

The group intercepted a cash-carrying van of a collection company near Pandav Nagar red light and decamped with Rs 39 lakh after firing few shots in the air and at the vehicle, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (special cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah.

Based on a tip-off, the police laid a trap on Friday near Khalsa College on Inner Ring Road. However, the accused opened fire at the police team and in retaliation, the personnel fired back, the officer said.

Three of the accused were apprehend on the spot as three others escaped in the car, which was later found abandoned near Patel Chest Institution, with one of its tyres punctured by a gunshot, the officer added.

Three loaded pistols along with a dozen cartridges and two cars were seized, he said.

Accused Vikram had jumped parole in 2017, while Ravi Pahalwan was an absent bad character of Shahdara police station, they both were declared proclaimed offenders in multiple cases, officials said.

Sarfaraz was also found involved in multiple cases of armed robbery, police said adding that efforts are being made to nab the absconding persons and the criminal history of Vikrant is being ascertained.

    Karnataka logged 1,127 cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, compared to the 839 cases registered the day before. As many as 1,053 of Wednesday's cases were from Bengaluru. Karnataka's cumulative Covid count is 39.75 lakh, with a positivity rate of 4.26%. Bengaluru's 1,053 cases were a big spike over the 775 reported Tuesday. Active cases in the city are 6,056.     3 dead after landslide in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district

    Three people have died after a landslide in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district, a senior police official told news agency ANI Thursday morning. A fourth is being treated in hospital, Rishikesh Sonawane, a police superintendent, said. Three people were rescued from amid the debris, Dr KV Rajendra, the deputy commissioner had said late last night. The Udupi district has called a holiday for anganwadi schools and colleges.
