In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the north civic body has launched an android-based application and website for lodging complaints against parking contractors found violating norms.

The North MCD has 102 parking lots in its jurisdiction, including eight multilevel car parking lots at Gandhi Maidan, Church Mission Road, Parade Ground and Asaf Ali Road.

These are run by 80 private concessionaires as per norms fixed by the municipal corporation.

Parking contractors are often seen to be violating norms, including overcharging visitors, not using the mandatory hand-held device to issue parking slips, occupying more than the permissible area, parking beyond the yellow line and not displaying details about parking rates, name of the contractor, area details, where to file complaints, etc.

North MCD mayor Preety Agarwal said, “If a citizen finds any violation vis-à-vis terms & conditions, he can simply log into the app, type his/her name, select on the type of violation, click the photo/video as proof and submit it online.”

Since it is a GPS-enabled app, the location and timing of the incident will be recorded automatically, she added.

As soon as the complaint is received by civic agency, a unique complaint number will be generated and it will be intimated to the complainant via e-mail. An SMS facility will be incorporated soon.

The department concerned will take cognizance of the violation and give two days to contractor to reply.

Penalty for guilty contractors include a fine ranging from R 500 to R 25,000 depending on the size of the parking lot, cancellation of contract terms, etc. ,within seven days.

The complainant can track the status of his/ her complaint and the action taken on the website or app.

“However only one penalty per violation per day is imposed as per rules,” said the official.

The app can be downloaded from www.mcdonline.gov.in and it will also be available on Google Play Store soon.

Complaints can also be registered on www.northmcd.com/parking.
