200 nominations filed for JNU student polls
NEW DELHI: Around 200 nominations have been filed for the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections which will be held on September 9.
NEW DELHI: Around 200 nominations have been filed for the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections which will be held on September 9.

Nominations were filed on Wednesday and the final list will be released on Thursday after scrutiny by the election office.
“Approximately 120 nominations received for post of councillors in different respective schools and approximately 75 nomination received for central panel,” officials said.
“The final list of candidates will be out on September 1,” officials said.
JNUSU has had a turbulent time in the last six months, with the University being embroiled in a debate on sedition after an event was held on the campus.
It was alleged that anti-national slogans were raised in the event after which three students, including the JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar were arrested. The students were recently granted regular bail by a Delhi Court.
Unlike the DUSU elections, JNU has a system where the candidates give speeches outlining their plans for the University and their stand on various issues.
“The Presidential debate will be on September 7. The next day will be a no campaign day. Counting will start on the same as polling but results will be declared on September 12,” officials said. Meanwhile, some students, who were punished by the University for their role in holding Afzal Guru event, had claimed their names were dropped from the voter list for the JNUSU polls.
“When the voter lists were put up today by the Election Commission of JNU we found that our names are not included in the list. …but were told that they have been struck off because of fines pending against us in the February 9 incident,” former JNUSU general secretary Rama Naga said.
