28-year-old tries to kill self after losing job
NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old woman, who worked as a teacher in a private school, allegedly tried to kill herself on Friday night after being fired from her job.
The police said that the woman, identified as Yogita, allegedly set herself on fire in northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura area after her employer, who had fired her, refused to retain her.
Yogita was later rushed to Safdarjung Hospital with 50% burns and is undergoing treatment.
According to the police, the woman went to the house of her employer, Promod, asking him to retain her. She was apparently fired from her job after she took a month’s leave without any notice.
Yogita also complained that she had not been paid her salary for the last three months. “The woman had reportedly been calling Promod, but he was not taking her calls.
She then decided to pay him a visit and carried a bottle of petrol with her. After a brief argument with Promod, she came out of his house, doused herself in petrol and set herself on fire.
Promod’s wife and his mother tried to save Yogita by dousing the fire and sustained burns in the process,” a senior police officer said.
The locals then made a PCR call and a police team rushed the trio for medical treatment.
