NEW DELHI: A six-year-old girl’s naked body was found in the bushes of Rangpuri Pahari forest area in Vasant Kunj on Tuesday morning.

The police said they received information about the girl’s body at about 7am.

“The girl was naked and she had black marks on her neck. There were no external marks and I also did not see any blood on her body,” he said.

A local labourer, who spotted the body, said he saw her lying next to a pit when he was walking near the bushes. He said there was a hammer, a stick, a shovel and a bag at the crime scene.

DCP (South) Ishwar Singh said that the child, a minor from the nearby Arjun camp in Mahipalpur, had been identified. He said the child was earlier admitted at Safdarjung hospital and had died of dengue.

“She was buried in the presence of her family members. There was no external injury on her body. The post mortem has already been conducted,” he said adding that police had initiated proceedings under 174 CrPC.

Earlier, the police said it appeared that there was an attempt to bury the body. They had recovered an axe, a bag with a few pairs of clothes and a prescription from near the body.

Investigating officials said they would probe how the child’s body, which had been buried, was exhumed. Police suspect the body was dug out by animals in the forest.
