NEW DELHI: The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the resignation of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal after the rejection of the office of profit bill by the President.

Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta said the Delhi BJP had been demanding the resignation of MLAs by putting pressure on the Kejriwal government.
“The role of Vivek Garg who had contested last assembly elections as a BJP candidate was very important in exposing the case. He presented the evidence of the official benefits given to the MLAs secured through RTI and he also became a party to the case before the election commission,” said Gupta.
Gupta said the Kejriwal government had no option but to seek resignation of the MLAs who were appointed parliamentary secretaries. “The Delhi government had admitted its mistake on the day when a provision was made in the office of profit bill to implement it with retrospective effect. It means the government had accepted that it was aware that it has taken an unconstitutional decision,” Gupta said.
The BJP said besides the rejection of the bill, the Kejriwal government ‘admitting to the ` 400-crore water tanker scam’ was a moral defeat for the chief minister and he should resign.
On Tuesday evening, BJP members requested L-G Najeeb Jung to order an ACB or a CBI inquiry over the reasons of suppression of the fact-finding committee in the DJB’s water tanker scam.
General secretary Ashish Sood said the way Kejriwal had made comments on the L-G was against the spirit of the constitution.
“It would be better if Kejriwal changes his mindset and stops making disparaging comments against the Prime Minister, lieutenant governor and others holding constitutional positions,” he said.
