Constable commits suicide in Prashant Vihar

NEW DELHI: A 41-year-old Delhi Police constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of a room at the disaster management control office in Prashant Vihar in outer Delhi on Monday morning.

No suicide note was recovered. Police suspect the constable was depressed over family issues.

A 1998-batch constable, Vinod, was posted with the northwest district police, but was recently shifted to the disaster management office. Police said Vi nod was in police uniform when he was found hanging around 8am.

A police officer said Vinod and his colleagues went to inspect a fire incident in Jahangirpuri in northwest Delhi on Sunday night. They returned late at night and Vinod went to his room on the first floor to sleep. He had locked his room from inside.

“In the morning, one of Vinod’s colleagues went to check on him as they were to go to another fire site. When Vinod didn’t respond, he alerted other colleagues and they broke open the door. Vinod was found hanging,” said a police officer.

Vinod was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. His family members were informed about the incident. Vinod is survived by his wife and two children, 13 and 9. The family lives in Ghaziabad. Vinod was the only earning member in the family.
