NEW DELHI: The stretch from Humayun’s Tomb to Purana Qila has been designated as Indraprastha Archaeological Park and will be developed.

The decision was taken in a meeting held on Wednesday.
At present, the Delhi Development Authority is developing three archaeological parks in Mehrauli, Sultangarhi and Tughlakabad.
The new park will include the citadel of Purana Qila, the National Zoological Park, Sunder Nursery, Batashewala Complex, World Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb and Millennium Park.
It will include over 50 monuments, of which at least 20 are protected as having national significance.
A senior official of DDA said the green zone will act as a buffer area to the World Heritage Complex at Humayun’s Tomb, making it one of the largest archaeological parks in Delhi.
“Once developed, these areas will be interconnected as a green corridor and archeological sites. This will also increase the number of visitors coming here,” she said.
Meanwhile, to promote greenery in the national capital, the DDA has formed a new committee called ‘biodiversity mission and DDA Greens.’
The team comprising the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, scientists and environmental experts will look after the development of urban parks, biodiversity parks, ridge, protected forests, city forest, and green corridors under the DDA’s jurisdiction.
A senior official of the DDA said the team will play an important role in the development of three urban parks in the city. DDA is planning to develop the 200-acre Aastha Kunj park near Nehru Place, 400-acre Hauz Khas park and 250-acre Swarn Jayanti park in Rohini as urban parks of international standards.
“The reason our bio-diversity park is very well maintained in comparison to other parks is because it is looked after by experts and scientists. The team, therefore, has been formed so that other green areas of DDA could also be developed properly,” she added. Biodiversity mission and DDA Greens will have financial powers too for developing the area.
