Street lights not working, notice to PWD, BSES
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued notices to PWD and BSES over non-functional street lights on Nelson Mandela Marg and Aruna Asaf Ali Marg
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued notices to PWD and BSES over non-functional street lights on Nelson Mandela Marg and Aruna Asaf Ali Marg after the SHO of that area complained to the commission.

Several safety audits have pointed out that many crimes against women occur on dark stretches of road.
In a complaint to the commission, the SHO of Vasant Kunj North police station said the two roads become dark after sundown and could result in crimes.
“Despite repeated written and telephonic requests to BSES officials as well as the PWD executive engineer, nothing concrete has been done so far,” the letter said.
Officials of the women’s panel said the SHO requested the commission to intervene to get the street lights fixed. The SH O informed the commission that the area was not safe for women at night.
“Police officials are finding it difficult to do their duties in the area at night. Furthermore, the area is not safe for women,” DCW chief Swati Maliwal said in the notice.
The women’s commission said both the power discom and the PWD had been asked to reply within 48 hours.
“The Delhi Commission for Women has taken cognisance of the complaint. It has issued notices to the BSES and the PWD. It has asked them about the action taken and the reasons behind the lights not functioning,” a DCW official said.
