NEW DELHI: A 36-year-old lawyer has alleged she was raped by Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Shadi Lal Batra in August. A case was registered at New Delhi’s Tilak Marg area.

Police said the woman, a resident of Ghaziabad, alleged that the 76-year-old MP raped her on the pretext of giving her a government job.

“She said that the MP called her to meet him and then forced himself on her. She alleged that he raped her several times on the pretext of giving her a senior position in the Haryana government,” a police officer said.

The victim has reportedly submitted a video of the incident to the police.

Reacting to the complaint, Batra said, “The allegations against me are completely baseless and politically motivated. I am sure justice will prevail and I will come out clean.”
