15,000 flats for sale after games

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which was expected to announce its latest housing scheme this week, will now do it only after the Commonwealth Games are over.

The DDA, the city's largest land owning and development agency, is expected to offer 15,000 flats in different parts of the Capital in its biggest housing scheme ever.

DDA Vice-Chairman Ashok Kumar Nigam had said last month that the housing scheme will be launched in mid September.

Sources in the agency, however, said that with officials grappling with Games projects, the housing scheme has taken a back seat.

"We are bringing out the scheme brochures and there have also been meetings to decide the prices of the flats but with most officials busy with Games projects, we can't work on the scheme now," said a senior DDA official who didn't wish to be identified.

"The housing scheme will now be launched only after the Games are over," he added.

The 15,000 flats on offer includes one, two and three bedroom ready-to-move flats in areas such as Dwarka, Vasant Kunj, Rohini, Jasola, Dr Mukherjee Nagar and Narela.

The housing scheme will also include the flats being constructed at Vasant Kunj for technical officials coming for the Commonwealth Games. The flats will be disposed right after the Games are over, along with the furnishings.
