“The state department officials ordered the filing of an FIR after the students were caught producing fake income-certificates to avail fee concessions/scholarships for their courses. The incident came to light following an inquiry report received from the state officials,” said college chairman DK Goel.
As per norms, only students with annual family income below R1 lakh are eligible to apply for scholarships from the social welfare department, which provides them concession of around R25,000 annually for their courses. Police officials said investigations would continue in the case and no arrests have been made so far.
"We have received orders and will thoroughly investigate the matter as per the inquiry-report enclosed,” Belwal said. “Their admissions, however, would not be cancelled if they refund the concession amount availed,” Goel said.
