2 women constables of CISF beat up snatcher

It was a case of sheer bad luck. Two snatchers attacked two women, who turned out to be female constables of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in plain clothes. As the robbers tried to flee on a bike, one of the constables picked up a stone and threw it at the bike.

As luck would have it, the stone found its mark and the pillion rider fell down. The constables, identified as Kanika Kumari Sahu and Ritu Rabha, immediately caught him and beat him up before handing him over to the police.

The two were on their way to the Shastri Park metro station, where they are posted.

"The snatchers attacked Sahu when they were coming out from IT hostel near the Shastri Park metro station. The pillion rider snatched her chain. Immediately, Rabha threw a stone which hit him and he fell. The driver, however, managed to flee the spot," Rohit Katiyar, CISF spokesperson said.

The arrested man has been identified as Hafiz alias Chuttan and his accomplice, identified as Sabu, is absconding.

"After Hafiz fell from the bike, both Sahu and Rabha rushed and started beating him. A local then made a PCR call and Hafiz was handed over to police. His accomplice is a resident of Ghaziabad. He will be arrested soon," Bhairo Singh, Additional DCP (railways), said.

A case has been registered at the police station of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

The incident took place around 4pm, 200 metres away from Shastri Park metro station. "I had to react immediately as everything happened within a matter of seconds," said Rabha. Both CISF and Delhi Police praised the two constables for their courage.

"If every girl shows such courage, the number of such snatching incidents will come down," Singh added.
