The victim, identified as Janeshwar Sharma (40), succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Sharma, who used to work as both a driver and an office boy, was employed with the industrialist for the past five years.
Sometime before his death, he reportedly left behind a letter, claiming a threat to his life from the industrialist and two other people.
"On June 9, Sharma came running out from the house with his body ablaze. He was rushed to a hospital by the household staff, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. We have registered a case of murder against unknown persons," said Virender Singh Chail, additional commissioner of police (southeast).
Before his death, Sharma had allegedly written a letter and kept it with an unidentified person. Police said they had seized the letter and were examining its veracity.
