Jai Bhagwan Gupta, who owns a shop in Khari Bawli market in north Delhi, was out for his morning walk when he was attacked by unidentified assailants near his Model Town residence, a senior police official said.

The attackers, who were riding two motorcycles, pumped a bullet into his chest, the official said, adding Gupta was rushed to Bara Hindu Rao hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Personal enmity is believed to be the reason behind the attack, he said adding there were no witnesses to the incident.

A case has been registered and a hunt is on to nab the culprits.

Only two days ago, a 60-year-old shopkeeper, Narayan Das, suffered serious bullet injuries when motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire at him during a robbery attempt in west Delhi.
