The brawl outside the Surya hotel where a club employee and his friends were beaten with iron rods and allegedly threatened with a gun has turned out to be the result of a rivalry between bouncers.

The police — who made first arrests on Friday, 12 days after the incident on February 13 — arrested seven more persons on Saturday for the assault on Bhupender Nagar, 27. Nagar is a chief security officer with Jynxxx, a club at the Hilton hotel in south Delhi’s Nehru Place.
“It was the result of rivalry among bouncers. All the arrested are bouncers and wanted free entry to the club where Nagar worked. One had worked there earlier,” a police officer said.
However, additional commissioner of police Ajay Chaudhry had another version: “Both parties had an altercation over a girl. The incident was a result of this.” Nagar’s friends refuted his claim. “The police are cooking up the story. The accused had created a ruckus at Jynxxx two months ago and their entry was banned,” said the club’s manager, Rohit Tomar, adding that the accused had threatened Nagar several times in the past.
Four men in a Swift followed Nagar and three of his friends after they left Jynxxx at 5am on February 13 and cornered them at the Surya in New Friends Colony. The assault was caught on the hotel’s CCTVs. Nagar has also claimed the men fired a gun but the police have denied this.
Nine persons have been arrested so far. The main accused, Vikas Chauhan, is still absconding.
