Mango growers have lined up a series of new varieties — from a tribute to eternal lovers Laila and Majnu to one developed through the methods described in the Vedic texts —at the 3-day festival, ending this Sunday, at the Dilli Haat,Pitampura.

A tribute is also paid to late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi by a mango grower from Uttar Pradesh who has named his variety ‘Sharanpur Rajiv’.

More than 500 varieties will be on display at the festival being organised in association with the Delhi Tourism Department along with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority and the National Horticulture Board.

The reddish Shahid Afridi mango is developed by Hazi Uffran Khan from UP's Saharanpur who says his variety matches the “angry attitude” of the Pak cricketer while Tarique Mustafa from the same place has developed the 2-kg ‘Khali Mahabali’, so named for its weight. PTI
