While the singer, Kalpana Chauhan (43), lost her right leg, her brother Vijay Singh (30) had his left arm amputated. The limbs had been badly damaged in the accident. Singh used to play tabla in Chauhan's musical troupe.

Both Chauhan and Singh were on a scooter when their vehicle hit a bump at the underpass and fell on the road. A truck coming from behind ran them over.

It was Chauhan herself who informed her husband on phone about the accident. He then called up the police control room (PCR) and informed them.
