Scores of supporters came back to the spot and courted arrest. Around 1pm, as news came that Hazare was likely to come out of Tihar Jail and proceed directly to this park, crowds started gathering.

Sporting banners, placards and even fancy headgears, supporters awaited anxiously for the moment when their icon would reach the venue.

"I came here cycling from Allahabad to spread the message. I wanted to join Anna personally, so I am here," said Rajendra Prasad Kushwaha, an instrumentation engineer from Allahabad, who had come along with his friend Amar Singh.

However, by 3.30pm when it was clear that Hazare was not coming out soon, a majority of the supporters proceeded to India Gate where a march was planned at around 4pm.
