It would be the tallest Metro station and, according to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), one of its prettiest.

Part of the soon to be opened Yamuna Bank–Noida section, the station has been designed to match the look of the sprawling Akshardham temple nearby, said a DMRC spokesperson.

Apart from being close to the temple, the station will be nearest to the Games Village, which will house sportspersons during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

There would separate entry and exit points towards Akshardham temple and the Games Village. The station will be connected to the Games Village by a road being built by Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the spokesperson said.

The station will be the highest Metro station from the ground, with six levels and standing 16.5 metres above ground level and 21 metres from the basement. Till now, Kashmere Gate Metro station, at 15 metres above the ground, was the highest from the ground.

“DMRC has used Dholpur stone on the exterior of the station, which is used in the temple too,” the spokesman said. “Commuters will be able to enjoy the view of the temple from the upper ground and concourse levels of the station.”

The six levels are basement, lower ground, ground, upper ground, concourse and platform. They will be connected by seven escalators and four lifts.

DMRC is also building a foot overbridge connecting the station to residential areas in Pandav Nagar.

“The final opening date of this line will depend upon the successful completion of the trials which will begin next week in Noida and clearance by the Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety,” he added.
