Amendment in Establishment & Shops Act?

In the wake of the kidnapping of 18-month-old Ishaan by his nanny in connivance with a placement agency, the Delhi government is planning to amend the Shops and Establishment Act to rein in such agencies to safeguard the interests of their clients.

Delhi labour minister Ramakant Goswami on Thursday said placement agencies would not be allowed to function without registration under the Shops and Establishment Act.

Agencies would have to face stringent punishment for non-registration, the amount of fine is also expected to increase substantially and the department also proposes to inspect such agencies at regular intervals.

The department has been receiving various complaints against such agencies.
