Animal lovers protest killing of dog in JNU
A group of animal rights activists marched inside the JNU campus on Wednesday, seeking punishment against a PHD scholar for allegedly hacking a stray dog to death inside his hostel room last week.
They requested the JNU authorities not to allow the student to submit his PHD, due on July 21. As per the activists, the student, from Nagaland, killed the dog along with his three roommates deliberately after calling it inside their hostel room.
“Other residents heard shrieks of the dog and informed the authorities. Although the accused has confessed to killing the dog, he should be handed the harshest punishment because he did it for fun,” said animal activist Sonya Ghosh of Citizens for the Welfare and Protection of Animals, who initiated action in this case.
“The student has vacated the hostel and submitted an apology,” said a JNU official. The protestors want him to be ousted altogether.
