The temperature at Safdarjung on Monday broke a 10-year record. The previous high of 45.4 degrees was recorded in 2012. In 2003, the maximum temperature was recorded at 45.6 degrees. The highest maximum temperature ever recorded at Safdarjung is 47.2 degrees in 1944.

At Palam, the temperature settled at 47.6 degrees, a day after it had registered 47.8, the hottest in the last 62 years. The humidity level in the city hovered between 52% and 19% on Monday.

A met department official said there will be no respite from the torrid heat wave on Tuesday as the maximum temperature is expected to be around 46 degrees.

"The minimum temperature on Monday was 30.1 degrees, two notches above normal. The heat wave conditions are expected to remain for at least three more days. The temperature is expected to be between 43-45 degrees till June 12," a met official said.

"Possible duststorm and partly cloudy sky may bring the temperature down to 41-42 degrees between June 13 and 15," the official said.
