“No student will be detained on the basis of shortage of attendance,” said Delhi University registrar Alka Sharma.

In a notification dated February 18 this year, the university had declared — as a one-time measure — that students who were not allowed to give their first, third and fifth semester exams in 2012 due to low attendance or their results not being declared could take the May exams. This was done as many students barred from taking the November/December 2012 exam had not been told in advance of their attendance shortage.

Now, DU has said that all students can sit for the exams “to ensure there is no discrimination between students who attended classes from the start of the present semester or those who joined classes pursuant to the notification dated 18-2-2013”.
