Australian High Commissioner Peter N Varghese said the Indian media reports are "bizarre" and "baseless".

"There is no change in Australia's position that Kashmir is an issue to be peacefully resolved by India and Pakistan," he said in the statement.

"Australia's position on uranium sales to India has absolutely nothing to do with Kashmir. It is based exclusively on Australia's long-standing policy that it will only export uranium to parties to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT).

"India has a good non-proliferation record but it is not a party to the NPT," he said.
