“Amartya Sen is a genius, he should concentrate on his work. The whole country wants Narendra Modi as PM and Sen is the only one opposing it,” BJP leader Kirti Azad said.

BJP leaders said Sen was only exhibiting his bias towards the Left and the Congress.

“There was no rational arguments from Sen; by stating that he did not want Modi as his PM, he only stated his bias against him,” said a party leader.

Sen had said “I think I would like a more secular person to be prime minister. I would not like a prime minister who generates fear among minorities. I am in favour of someone who looks at social administration and not just business administration seriously. That doesn’t mean that I don’t see what he has done and why people admire him.”

Sen went also said that as an economist he didn’t approve of the ‘Modi model’ of governance.
