Petroleum Minister Murli Deora's statement on reduction of petrol prices after assembly polls amounts to a clear violation of the model code of conduct, BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters in New Delhi.

A BJP delegation led by Naqvi submitted a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalswami demanding action against the Congress and the UPA government.

Besides Naqvi, BJP leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and Balbir Punj were part the delegation.

Deora had earlier said the Government will cut petrol and diesel prices after December 24 when the Assembly elections are over.
