A Bench headed by Justice ltamas Kabir also directed the Centre to pay Rs 20,000 to Ravi Prakash Gupta, who successfully argued his case in the apex court.

The bench upheld the findings of the Delhi High Court that the government was obligated to fill up the seven posts lying vacant since 1996 reserved for persons with disabilities under the Disabilities Act. Gupta qualified for IAS in the year 1996. But, the government had then appointed just one disabled person under the special category. Gupta challenged the government’s decision to not appoint him.
