The incident took place after the victim made objectionable remarks against them and refused to drop them home. The accused also tried to slit his throat but failed. Police have arrested the duo.

The victim, identified as Jitender, was found dead in some bushes near Fatehpur Beri village on Saturday morning. During investigation, it was found that Jitender — son of a former village head and a Blueline bus contractor — had received a call from his friends, Padam Singh and Mahesh, that they were to attend the birthday party of a common friend.

While returning from the party, Singh and Mahesh asked him to drop them home. However, Jitender refused to do so and passed ‘caste-related remarks’, police said.

“Jitender had earlier beaten up Mahesh and he had been nursing a grudge against the victim. On Friday, when Jitender refused to drop them home, they started beating him. Since Jitender was drunk, he became unconscious. Fearing he would take revenge, they decided to kill him and stoned him to death,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

“The two accused said the deceased used to taunt them and hurl community-specific abuses at them. They killed him for fear of being beaten up by his brothers,” said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south).
