Police said the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, when Pintu, a private security guard, was on his way to Malviya Nagar.

“He was on his way to work from his house at Devli village. A Blueline bus hit his bicycle from behind throwing him to the ground, before running him over,” said a senior police officer. The victim died on the spot.

Blueline buses had killed 117 people in the Capital in 2009.

In Saturday’s accident, the bus, running on route 502, was on its way to the Old Delhi Railway Station from Mehrauli. Police have arrested Anil Choudhary, the bus driver.

In another accident, 38-year-old Vimla (only one name given) died after a truck hit the bike she was riding pillion with her husband Shyam Bahadur.

Police said the incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. on GT Road, when the Shastri Park couple was on their way to the victim's beauty parlour in Seelampur.

“Both Vimla and her husband were knocked down to the ground as soon as the truck hit their two-wheeler,” said a senior police officer.

The couple was rushed to a nearby hospital, where Vimla succumbed to her injuries.

Her husband is still undergoing treatment. Police said after the accident, around 25 angry local residents blocked traffic and attempted to set the truck ablaze.

“The angry onlookers ended up blocking traffic for around 15 minutes, but were soon made to disperse,” said S.S. Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (northeast Delhi).

In one more accident, a child was killed when his father tried to avoid hitting a man on a cycle. The accident took place on Outer Ring Road near Jahangirpuri late on Friday.

Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Paschim Vihar, was travelling with his wife and three children.

“A man on a cycle suddenly came in front of the car. While trying to save him, Kumar lost control of his vehicle. His son was killed in the accident,” said a police officer.
