Call centre team leader held for rape

A 28-year-old Rohini resident has been arrested on charges of raping his colleague. Police said Prashant Rana, a team leader in a BPO company in Gurgaon, drugged his 27-year-old colleague and raped her on Friday night.

Police said Prashant Rana, a team leader in a BPO company in Gurgaon, drugged his 27-year-old colleague and raped her on Friday night.

The victim, who lives alone in a rented accommodation in Paschim Vihar in West Delhi, told the police that on Friday her office cab dropped her near her house around 8 p.m. The accused was also travelling in the same cab.

“The victim alleged that the accused also got down with her near her home and gave her a drink laced with sedatives,” said Sharad Aggarwal, DCP (West).

The victim told the police that after consuming the drink she fell unconscious and Rana then took her to an unknown place where he reportedly raped her. On Saturday, when the victim woke up and found herself in an unknown place, she boarded an auto and rushed home.

On Sunday around 12.30 am, she approached the Paschim Vihar police and lodged a complaint. A medical examination confirmed she had been sexually assaulted, police said.

The victim and the accused work in Salient BPO in Sector 54, Gurgaon. She told the police that she had been working as an executive with this call centre for the last four months after she came to Delhi from Uttarakhand.

The BPO was shut on Sunday and its officials could not be contacted. Police said they were trying to get details from their colleagues and friends. The officer said, “Both of them knew each other at work from the last few months”.

“They used to talk to each other often and were friendly. The victim said on the day of the crime she does not remember where she was taken. She said she lost consciousness and could not tell us the exact location of the crime,” said a senior police officer on condition on anonymity, as he isn’t authorised to speak to media.
