On Saturday afternoon, the girl’s parents locked her inside their Santro and went to buy medicine when a tow truck took away the car. The vehicle was taken to Shakarpur police station, two kilometres away.
The couple panicked when they realised that their car had gone — with their child inside it — and called the police control room. After a person nearby told them what had happened, they rushed to the police station, only to find their child crying inside the car. The girl’s father said he would file a complaint on Sunday.
A showcause notice has been issued against traffic constable Rakesh Kumar, who gave the order to tow away the car. “We are taking action against officers for their negligence. But it is also the responsibility of the child’s parents to take care of their daughter,” Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic), said.
