CBI detains Mumbai tax official for 'taking' bribe

The CBI detained a senior officer of the Income Tax department based in Mumbai for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 4.5 lakh.

The CBI on Friday detained a senior officer of the Income Tax department based in Mumbai for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 4.5 lakh.

S N Kamath, Additional Commissioner of the Income Tax Department in Mumbai, was detained while allegedly accepting a gratification of Rs 4.5 lakh from a complainant for clearing his tax returns, CBI Sources said.

Subsequently, officials of the agency conducted searches on the residential and official premises of Kamath in the metropolis.

Searches were also conducted at the premises of two more officers of the Tax department in connection with the same case.
