CII report calls for vigorous incentives to attract good teachers

Lauding the efforts of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), which produced two reports titled 'Towards Professional Preparation of Teacher Educators: A Critical Analysis of the Current Teacher Educator Profile and Competencies' and 'Urgent Needs of NGOs', Tharoor said despite near total coverage of population in the relevant age group under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the country still faced many deficits in the field of education, including lack of teachers.

The minister said the recommendations in the reports were useful and would serve as guidance for future policy actions.

Ajay Shriram, vice president, CII, reiterated the relevance of the voucher credit system wherein there is flexibility of a transfer from the one school to another. He said though the private sector has contributed to the education system, more needs to be done.

Vijay Thadani, chairman, CII National Committee on School Education, stressed on the relevance of ethics and a value in the education system.
