Raising the issue in the Zero Hour, JD (U) president Sharad Yadav claimed the government had lost as much as Rs 1 lakh crore due to telecom ministry's "wrong policies".

"There is no other example in contemporary world history of a scam of such a magnitude," he added.

The allotments, Yadav said, were made despite strong objections raised by the law ministry, telecom secretary and finance secretary. “The law minister said don't do this...the telecom secretary said don't do this...Then what was the need to go ahead with it," he asked.

CPI(M) leader Basudeb Acharia, too, supported Yadav's charges, dubbing it the "biggest scam" in the country's history.

The ruling Congress, however, sought to counter the allegations with some party members including Sanjay Nirupam levelling similar allegations against the NDA government.
