Vasudevan was arrested by CBI last Monday in a bribery case.

The Bureau has so far seized Rs 1.76 crore in cash from the CLB official.

The CBI will now approach the central government, including the central Law ministry, to seek permission to charge Vasudevan for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

A senior case investigator who requested anonymity, told HT, “We will take the union government’s permission to book Vasudevan for owning disproportionate assets.”

He added, “We are required to get the central government’s nod for this, as per law, if the accused is a government officer like Vasudevan who is at a grade higher than a joint secretary.”
