A number of the legislators appear perturbed over water shortage and sewage problems, claiming both issues need immediate fixes.

During a meeting with members of the Congress legislature party (CLP) on Saturday, Sheila Dikshit is said to have stressed the need to reach out to resident welfare associations (RWAs) and spread awareness about schemes launched by her government, especially those relating to the social sector.

For a number of the members of the legislative Assembly (MLAs) at the meeting, sources said, water shortage in several areas had grown to become a serious problem.

The chief minister, on her part, urged those at the meeting to speed up development in their areas, without worrying about funds.

“The chief minister has asked us to carry out developmental works in our areas. At the same time, she has emphasised the need to publicise the schemes launched by the Delhi government,” said an MLA who was at the meeting.

Most Congress MLAs were at the meeting, except for PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, and transport minister Arvinder Singh left early.

Many of the MLAs were, however, satisfied with the power supply situation.

“Sewers in certain areas have not been cleaned properly, and may create problems during rains,” added the MLA.

Some of the MLAs protested that despite getting clearances, they still had not been able to start work in their constituencies.

“The MLAs have been told to introduce social sectors schemes launched by the Delhi government in their constituencies so that a large number of people can benefit from it,” Mukesh Sharma, the spokesperson of the CLP, said.
