Cong to reach out to youth via FB, Twitter

Khidkee.com, a site which currently serves as the in-house forum for Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and National Students Union of India (NSUI), is set to be integrated with Facebook and Twitter.

“The website will be turned into a platform for Congress-leaning people with discussion forums, regular updates, news on various developments in the party as well as the policy-front,” said a source.

While the party and its frontal organizations are still mulling the option of opening fresh and full-fledged accounts on Twitter, given the mixed bag of feedback received from various users, the latest push for better engagement with the masses through the internet has resulted in a revamp plan of Khidkee.com.

A dedicated team of IYC leaders have been working on the platform for nearly a month now.

The new-look site and its Twitter and Facebook interface is expected to be launched in a couple of months.

“Suggestions received from different people will also be assessed to taking them up at the higher levels of leadership,” said a source.

“We expect this platform to have a greater influence in the social media where currently our presence is very limited,” said another source.

Several Congress leaders like Shakeel Ahmad or Anil Shastri, however, maintain their own Twitter accounts where they regularly launch counter-attacks on political opponents and propagate party’s line on various issues. But the leadership is keen on a more organized approach on social media that has already emerged as hot favourite among the youth.
