The Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) anti corruption unit has arrested a Delhi police inspector for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant to close a case
against him.
Inspector Vijender Singh was attached to Preet Vihar police station in east Delhi and was investigating a case in which the complainant was an accused.
Singh, said a CBI investigator who requested anonymity, was arrested accepting Rs 3,000 on Sunday night at the complainant’s house in east Delhi.
The complainant had said Singh asked for money saying the case against him would be “hushed up or closed” if he paid him. The complainant is currently out on bail in the case.
The complainant approached the CBI, which laid a trap to arrest the officer.
The inspector had allegedly instructed the complainant to keep the bribe sum ready when he came to collect it. The CBI sleuths were waiting for him.
Delhi police’s spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said, “Let the CBI submit its report in this
regard. We will take action accordingly.”
Singh was on Monday remanded to judicial custody till January 4 by a special court.
