But it is all the more bad if it happens to a fresh out-of-police-training college recruit.

A newly appointed sub-inspector with the Delhi Police lost his service pistol when he was posted outside Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium during the recent IPL Match.

Babu Lal Meena, who is from the present batch of sub-inspectors of Delhi Police, lost his service pistol when he was apparently trying to control

the crowd.

The incident happened on March 17, when the stadium was holding a match between Delhi Dare Devils and Mumbai Indians that the latter won.

The police said that Meena himself went to IP Estate Police Station to report the matter about the gun.

According to police, the incident happened around 11:40 pm when he was manning the outer periphery of the stadium.

“Suddenly a large crowd came towards the officers standing there. Meena was also trying to divert the crowds towards the exit. He said that he might have lost his pistol during that time,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is

not authorised to speak to the media.

The police said that after the crowd left Meena felt the belt of his uniform lighter.

“When he checked he found his pistol missing. After a frantic search of the area he went to his senior officers who told him to report the matter,” added the officer.

The police have registered a case of theft.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Jaspal Singh said, “He lost his gun while he was trying to control the crowd. A case has been registered at the IP Estate Police Station. A departmental inquiry will be conducted against Meena.”
