Cop’s killer also part of gang of car thieves

Police say main accused Abhishek Gupta, lodged in Meerut jail, snatched motorcycle in IP Estate area.

In a fresh disclosure in the murder case of a Delhi police head constable in Meerut in May, it has been learnt that the prime accused was allegedly involved in a motorcycle robbery case that took place in central Delhi's IP Estate area.

The disclosure was made by one of the accomplices of the prime accused, who was arrested by the central Delhi police in connection with the motorcycle case. The central Delhi police have got a production warrant from a city court against Abhishek Gupta, the prime accused currently lodged in a Meerut jail, to secure his custody.

A senior police officer said Gupta will be brought to Delhi on June 22. Police suspect Gupta and his accomplices could be involved in more vehicle thefts in the city.

Gupta had shot dead Delhi Police head constable Sanjeev Malik and injured constable Sachin following an argument over giving passage to their vehicles on a narrow road near Idrispur in Gang Nahar area on the Meerut bypass.

Regarding the motorcycle case, police said Gupta and three of his accomplices had robbed a blue Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle from Pulkit Dalmiya, a 19-year-old chartered accountancy student, after throwing red chilli powder in his eyes on April 30.

Though the nature of the incident attracted section 392 (robbery) of the IPC, the police allegedly persuaded the victim to get a case registered under section 379 (theft) of the IPC.

Dalmiya was on his way home in Malviya Nagar after attending his coaching classes in Preet Vihar. He stopped to attend a call of nature but was attacked when he was about to start his bike.

The four assailants, who had appeared suddenly, allegedly threw chilli powder in his eyes and ran away with his bike. The incident had taken place just a few metres from the IP police station around 9.45 pm.

The IP estate police have already recovered the motorcycle from Meerut and have got the custody of one of Gupta's accomplices named Pushpendra Singh Tyagi.
